The WebStartAvenue Endnote WordPress Plugin is a free WordPress plugin that allows for endnotes to be easily inserted into posts and pages.
Use Endnotes to cite sources or provide in-depth explanations in your posts or pages.
All the functionality is provided by an easy to use shortcode. To insert an endnote,
use any of the following formats:
[endnote This is an example endnote!]
[end This is another alias for endnotes!]
[note Last one!]
Each of the above shortcodes does the same thing:
- Replaces the text by a number, in the order they appear in the document, starting at 1
- Places a note at the bottom, in an ordered list corresponding to the number placed
in the content’s text - Links the endnote and text reference using anchor tags for easy clicking between
references and back to the text
All styles can be customized by adding appropriate CSS styles to your theme.
This plugin is licensed under the GPLv3 open source license. We have submitted the plugin to be included in the WordPress Plugin Directory but until it is approved it can be download directly, wsa-endnotes.zip.
UPDATE: Great news! WordPress.org has accepted our plugin and it is now available at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/webstartavenue-endnotes/.

Hello,
Your plugin is a very good idea, and I was so delighted to find it. Nice and simple ! Thanks !!
However, when I use it, it does a strange thing : on the front page, where the recent article appear as archives, the footnotes of one article appear at the end of every article (you’ll understand instantly if you visit my website). I am not a programmer at all, so there’s not much I can do. Yet I hope that my little comment will help you in improving this nice plugin (thank for keeping me update about it if you can)
cheers
C
Hi Camille,
Thanks for the feedback. I have looked at your site and am not sure I saw the issue your mentioning. Are you still experiencing the issue?
I have made a few updates to the plugin which should be available from the WordPress repository soon. Perhaps these will help?
Thanks!
Matt
Hi,
thank you for the plug-in “endnotes for wp”. It is working, but puts the notes at the very end of a post, e.g. even after outputs of other plugins like “similiar posts”. Instead endnotes should appear right after the text of a post.
Any idea?
Best regards
K. Singer
Hi Singer,
Can you try the latest version? I think I’ve fixed the issue your mentioning. If not, can you send a screen shot to contact at webstartavenue.com?
Thanks!
Great plugin. I modified it so it would display the footnote in a “tool tip” on hover. I tried to send a message with the changes, but your contact form isn’t working. Email me and I’ll send you the files.
